‘Jubilee’ Trailer Teases Ambition and Jealousy in the Golden Era of Bollywood
Just months after director Damien Chazelle unleashed his chaotic vision of Old Hollywood in the epic film Babylon, Indian director Vikramaditya Motwane is all set to take audiences back to the Golden Era of Bollywood with his upcoming Hindi-language series Jubilee. Slated to release on Prime Video next month, the show got a first trailer on Friday.
Set in newly-independent India in the year 1947, Jubilee has been described as a tale of “passion, ambition and love.” It chronicles of the lives of “a studio boss, his movie-star wife, a trusted aide, a rising star, a nautch girl and a refugee.” The story seems to be set in and around the fictional Roy Talkies studio, where several characters cross paths, often to violent ends. Jubilee doesn’t present a rose-tinted view of the film industry; instead, it seems to have an almost noir-thriller tone, with bits of levity thrown in. The closest comparison could actually be Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' comic book series The Fade Out.
The film industry in Jubilee is shown as a hotbed of vice, where jealousy and ambition collide as a starlet begins an affair with an up-and-coming heartthrob. Her jealous husband hires a goon to investigate, while an obnoxious studio boss throws his weight around as he plays God. The charm of vintage Mumbai — or Bombay, as it was then known — has been recreated with a combination of practical sets and digital environments. Viewers will be transported to the stylish jazz clubs of the era, the art-deco theaters, and the sprawling studio back lots. We also get plenty of looks at Mumbai’s tropical landscape, and get a sense of the socio-economic upheaval that was in the air. Post-independence India was a land of opportunity, where previously oppressed people discovered that they could follow their dreams.

Lauren Graham says she will "always say yes" to 'Gilmore Girls' reboot
Washington [US], February 6 : Actor Lauren Graham, who is best known for portraying Lorelai Gilmore in the dramedy series 'Gilmore Girls' shared that she is always ready to work in its reboot.
The actress was recently asked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon if she would return for a potential reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I would, yes! I always say yes because it's the best part I ever had, and I love doing it," Graham said. "It was the perfect material at the perfect time with the perfect writer, and it just means so much to me."
"The WB/CW dramedy, which ran from 2000 to 2007, centered around the relationship between thirtysomething single mother Lorelai and her teen daughter Rory (Bledel) living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The cast also included Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Yanic Truesdale, Sean Gunn, Liza Weil and the late Edward Herrmann," as per the outlet.
Graham returned in 2016 for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, a four-episode revival set nearly a decade after the original series' finale. It tracked Lorelai, Rory, and Emily Gilmore through four seasons of transformation.
She added, "I will say it can be strange at times because on the one hand, some people are starting to say, 'You raised me,' and I'm like, 'I hope there were other adults involved.' And then on the other hand, people are like, 'Oh, I just have the show on in the background. It puts my dog to sleep. We're not even listening anymore. It's just on like background music.," as per the outlet.
While Gilmore Girls was a hit in the early 2000s, the beloved show has continued to find second or third generations of viewers over the years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Matt Damon 'Hopes' Good Will Hunting Co-Star Robin Williams Gets Honored With Statue In Boston Garden: 'Would Be Pretty Cool...'
Matt Damon recently remembered his late co-star, Robin Williams. Damon shared the screen with Williams in their award-winning 1997 drama movie Good Will Hunting. The actor recalled his experience working with him and shared that an artist pitched an idea to put a 'bronze statue' of the Jumanji actor in Boston's Public Garden.
According to People magazine, Damon recently discussed his new film The Instigators with journalist Jake Hamilton. During the conversation, he also shared how someone had suggested the idea of a bronze statue of Robin Williams being permanently placed in Boston's garden, noting that the whole concept is that "if you feel alone, you can go sit next to him, which I think is the coolest idea."
The outlet noted that if a statue of the late beloved actor got created in the future, it would be next to the iconic bench in the park where Damon and Williams filmed one of the most emotional scenes in Good Will Hunting. The Last Duel movie actor further mentioned, "It would be the most beautiful installation and such a tribute to that guy, who I think would have loved that." He said he heard about this plan "like a month ago," and so he "hopes" it comes to pass and they let the artist do it, noting it would be "pretty cool."
Matt Damon also recalled his fond memories and experience filming that bench scene, where his character Will Hunting had a deep conversation with his co-star Williams character, Dr. Sean Maguire. As per the outlet, he told Hamilton, "Robin was off-book in pre-production, which was nuts because that monologue was like two pages long," noting that in the scene, his character barely says anything, just a line at the very beginning, and Williams takes over.
He remembered rehearsing it with him, saying that since he and Ben Affleck had written the script, so he was also "o Gilmore Girlsis a humorous family drama that follows mother Lorelai Gilmore, and her bookish daughter, Rory. Lorelai had her daughter and moved out of her privileged family's home to make it on her own in Star's Hollow when she was just a teenager. Lorelai and Rory are just as much best friends as they are mother and daughter, and they support each other as they navigate the ups and downs of schooling, careers, and relationships. "Written in the Stars" follows Luke and Lorelai at the beginning of their romantic relationship. Focusing on a couple with amazing chemistry that people wanted to see together from the beginning of Gilmore Girls, the episode is an amazing portrayal of true love and romance. This controversial character is still beloved by some Gilmore Girls fans, despite their flaws. Here, Gilmore Girls' Luke and Lorelai go out on a date at Luke's favorite restaurant. There, she meets some of Luke's most beloved people, which is a great show of vulnerability from the usually guarded man. Luke also shows Lorelai a clip of a newspaper with his horoscope that Lorelai gifted him the first time they met. It's an absolutely sweet, fluffy, and swoon-worthy episode. In the fifth season of Gilmore Girls, Emily and Richard spend a lot of time separated, with Richard even living in the pool house instead of the main building. When they reconcile, they decide to renew their vows, and the ceremony is truly romantic. Richard makes a great speech and takes Emily to the dance floor with one of her favorite songs. Romance isn't always about new relationships. Ther arguably there isn't anything more romantic than two people deciding to emphasize their commitment to each other after decades of marriage.
