♑ Capricorn, December 22 – January 20

Capricorns are known for being upstanding, responsible citizens. Disciplined, traditional, with a serious streak, Capricorns are independent and good leaders. They’re smart and exacting in the work that they do, and include some of the most celebrated composers in classical music.

Frances Jean Marcel Poulenc (7 January – 30 January ) exemplifies a Capricorn’s industrious independence: he was mostly self-taught after his parents did not support his musical ambitions. While most of his best-known works are light-hearted, his serious side came through in his later religious works.

♒ Aquarius, January 21 – February 19

Aquarius (Aquarii?) march to the beat of their own drum. They can be eccentric, introspective, intellectuals who also love to take on energy that surrounds them. Don’t let an Aquarius get bored though, they need motivation to achieve their best results.

You’re in good company with a number of great composers, but no one fits the description as well as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  As a child prodigy, travelling around Europe would have provided Mozart with lots of mental stimulation to motivate him and improve his skills as a pianist and composer.  With his strong independent streak, Mozart resigned from his position working for the Archbishop Colloredo and pursued a career as a freelance composer in Vienna.

Music is in the stars. Most obviously, it appears as the constellation Lyra (Latin for lyre). The original instrument was crafted from a tortoise shell by Hermes, then was gifted to his half-brother Apollo, and in turn given to Apollo’s son Orpheus, the musician to the Argonauts. Shakespeare said of Orpheus: “Everything that heard him play/Even the billows of the sea/Hung their heads, and then lay by”. The Roman poet Ovid, writing about the constellation, refers to the seven strings of the Pleiades; the Persian Hafiz called it the Lyre of Zurah, and the Arabs named it Al Sanj, the origin of many later European designations with the root, ‘sang’.

In his astrological treatise, Phaenomena, the Greek poet Aratos called it Lyra, the Little Tortoise, recalling the story of Hermes’ invention. The constellation Delphinus was sometimes characterised by the Latin musicum signum, its nine stars referencing the nine Muses. Astrologers have long associated their art with music. The American composer-turned- astrologer Dane Rudhyar employs the terms ‘cycle’, ‘rhythm’ and ‘oscillation’ to explain astrology as a structure of consciousness. In Astrological Timing: The Transition to the New Age, he analogises cosmic and musical cycles to describe the relationship between the world of potential and the world of form, which he then applies to great ages, zodiacal man, and geodetic divisions of Earth:

Aries and Music

Rhythm is what matters to you, regardless of the musical genre. It must be pulsating, it must be groovy, in a word, your aim is not to relax when you listen to your favorite artists.

Regarding classical music, Richard Wagner's work, which could be described to be anything except tepid, goes straight to your heart. If not, you love the rock and roll of the seventies, especially the Rolling Stones and Mick Jagger, its relentless voice leader.
