Faith Renee Evans was born in 1973 in Lakeland, Florida. Her father left the family when she was very young and so Evans was raised by her mother and aunt in Newark, New Jersey. Her mother was eighteen when she gave birth to Evans.
Immersed in music, Evans sang at church since she was two and sang in school musicals. She was a smart child, making the honor roll in high school and winning a full scholarship to Fordham University. However, music was Evans love and so she dropped out of college after one year to pursue music.
When Evans was 19 years old, she had a child, Chyna, with producer Kiyamma Griffin. Griffin helped Evans get established in the industry as she worked as a session singer with Al B. Sure. During this time, Evans met producer Sean 'Puffy' Combs who thought she had talent and signed her to his label, Bad Boy Records.
Evans helped write songs and did backup for Usher's debut album and Mary J. Blige's My Life. Another member of the label, rapper The Notorious B.I.G., met Evans at a Bad Boy photoshoot and the two married ten days later in August 1994.
In 1995, Faith Evans released her debut album, Faith. The album sold well with the singles 'You Used To Love Me' and 'Soon As I Get Home' both breaking the top 5 on the R&B charts. Both of the singles went gold, helping to drive the album into platinum status.
During this time, Evans was pregnant with Biggie's child and a fierce rap war between Biggie and Tupac Shakur developed. The rivalry escalated when Shakur was murdered in September 1996. The escalating conflict and rumors that Biggie was cheating with female rappers Lil' Kim and Charli Baltimore caused the couple's marriage to collapse, even as their child, Christopher Jordan, was being born.
In March of 1997, Biggie was killed by unidentified assassins, causing Evans to enter a deep depression. Working alongside Puff Daddy and group 112, the artists released 'I'll Be Missing You,' a tribute song to Biggie. The single reac

Musical artist
Faith Renée Evans (born June 10, 1973) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, and actress. Born in Lakeland, Florida and raised in New Jersey, she relocated to Los Angeles in 1991 in pursuit of a recording career. Evans initially performed as a backing vocalist for R&B singers Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams, and by the age of 20, signed with Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records as the label's first female artist in 1994. Following her uncredited appearance on labelmate the Notorious B.I.G.'s single "One More Chance", she released her debut studio album, Faith (1995), to critical acclaim and moderate commercial reception. Evans then guest performed alongside 112 on Puff Daddy’s 1997 single "I'll Be Missing You," which won Best Rap Performance at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards and became the first hip hop song to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100. Her second and third albums, Keep the Faith (1998) and Faithfully (2001), peaked at numbers six and 14 on the Billboard 200, respectively, and saw further critical praise.
Evans parted ways with Bad Boy in favor of Capitol Records in 2003. Her fourth album, The First Lady (2005) peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and topped the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, while her fifth album, A Faithful Christmas (2005)—a holiday album—failed to chart and served as her final release on a major label. After a hiatus, she released her sixth album, Something About Faith (2010) independently, followed by her seventh album, Incomparable (2014). With a career spanning two decades, Evans has sold over 20 million records worldwide.
Outside of recording, Evans is known as the widow of rapper Christopher "the Notorious B.I.G." Wallace, whom she married on August 4, 1994, after meeting the rapper at a Bad Boy photoshoot. The turbulent marriage resulted in Evans' involvement in the East Coast–West Coast hip
