Nina Tassler was named Chairman, CBS Entertainment, in February 2014. She reports directly to Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation. Television executive Nina Tassler is an American film and television executive and producer. She was most recently the chairwoman of CBS Entertainment until 2015. Tassler was born in New York City to a Jewish father and a Puerto Rican mother who converted to Judaism. She was the highest profile Latina in network television and one of the few executives who had the power to greenlight series. Her boss was Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group. Tassler oversaw CBS' prime time, late night and daytime programming, as well as program development for all genres. Tassler grew up in upstate New York and eventually graduated from Boston University (bachelor of fine arts in theater). After college, she moved to New York City and worked for Roundabout Theatre Co. After a few years, she moved to Los Angeles. There, she worked as a talent agent at Triad Artists for about 5 years before moving on to Warner Brothers. Tassler joined CBS in August 1997 as VP Drama, CBS Productions, before moving to the network as SVP Drama Development in 1998, then becoming President of Entertainment in 2004 and chairman in 2014. In her position, Tassler leads the Network's entertainment programming for primetime, daytime and late night, as well as program development in all genres, including comedy, drama, reality, specials and long-form. She also directs a growing year-round programming portfolio that includes a full slate of original series in the summer as well as projects in the Limited Series & Event Programming unit. In addition, Tassler oversees Entertainment division matters in advertising and promotion, business affairs, consumer products, digital/interactive, diversity, publicity, scheduling and research.
Prior to being named Chairman, Nina Tassler served as President, CBS Entertainment, since 2004. Under Tassler's leadership, CBS has been America’s most-watched network for 11 of the last 12 years. During this time, she has introduced a steady supply of hit programs across all genres, including television's #1 comedy, THE BIG BANG THEORY, the critically acclaimed THE GOOD WIFE, PERSON OF INTEREST, HAWAII FIVE-0, BLUE BLOODS, ELEMENTARY, MOM, the Emmy Award-winning UNDERCOVER BOSS, and most recently, NCIS: NEW ORLEANS, MADAM SECRETARY and SCORPION, three of the top new series of the season.
Previously, as Executive Vice President, Drama Series Development, Tassler developed the highly-rated and commercially successful CSI and NCIS franchises.
Tassler has also helped the Network break new programming ground with the introduction of big event summer series including UNDER THE DOME, based on Stephen King's bestselling novel and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and EXTANT, a mystery thriller starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry.
