Chong Wei was born in Bagan Serai, Perak, into a Malaysian Chinese family and started his humble journey to becoming a champion at the age of He was discovered by a former Malaysian professional badminton player by the name of Misbun Sidek and the rest is history!

He won his first Super Series tournament, the Malaysian Open at the age of 22 and has since gone on to accumulate 69 career titles and reigned as the world no.1 for a consecutive weeks. In , he earned his title Datuk after he became the first Malaysian to have reached an Olympic finals in the men’s singles event. He is known for being incredibly fast and having one of the most aesthetic badminton techniques in the badminton arena, with jump smashes that will literally blow your mind. He developed an ironclad defensive style that utilises deep defensive dives to recover from sideline smashes, better than anyone else on the circuit during his peak.  

Malaysia has never won an Olympic gold and for years, Chong Wei was their best hope. So he endeavoured to stay the course to go for an Olympic gold medal yet again - despite his shock announcement of being diagnosed with nose cancer in July last year ().     Lee Chong Wei (Chinese: 李宗伟; pinyin: Lǐ Zōngwěi; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lí Chong-úi; born 21 October ) is a Malaysian former professional badminton player. As a singles player, Lee was ranked first worldwide for weeks, including a week streak from 21 August to 14 June He is the fifth Malaysian player after Foo Kok Keong, Rashid Sidek, Roslin Hashim and Wong Choong Hann to achieve such a ranking (since official rankings were first kept in the s), and is the only Malaysian shuttler who has held the number one ranking for more than a year. On 2 May , Lee was inducted to BWF Badminton Hall of Fame. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest badminton players of all time.

    He was discovered and trained by a local badminton coach Teh Peng Huat at a badminton hall that he used to accompany his father to. He later caught the eye of former national shuttler Misbun Sidek who drafted him into the national squad in In his year long international badminton career, he has won a total of 69 titles including an all-time record of 46 Badminton World Federation Super Series singles titles, 12 Malaysian Open and 4 All England titles.
