Born as Syed Amir Haider Kamal Naqvi in Amroha, United Provinces of British India (now Uttar Pradesh), he later adopted the name Kamal Amrohi, or Amrohvi, as he was fondly known. He was a first cousin to Pakistani writers Jaun Elia and Rais Amrohvi.

Kamal Amrohi’s cinematic journey was nothing short of extraordinary, marked by timeless creations that left a lasting impact on the film industry. Some of his notable Hindi films include the iconic “Mahal” (1949), the enchanting “Pakeezah” (1972), and the regal “Razia Sultan” (1983). He left an indelible mark on the industry, establishing Kamal Pictures (Mahal Films) in 1953 and the renowned Kamalistan Studio in Bombay in 1958.

Kamal’s first wife was Bilkis Bano, who was a maid serving Nargis’s mother, Jaddan Bai. After her passing, he tied the knot with Sayeda Al-Zehra Mehmoodi, the daughter of Jamal Hasan. But destiny had other plans for him, as he crossed paths with the ethereal Meena Kumari during the filming of “Tamasha.” It was a fateful encounter introduced by actor Ashok Kumar.

Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi’s love story bloomed, leading them to exchange vows on the most romantic day of the year, 14th February 1952 – Valentine’s Day, in an intimate ceremony. This occasion was kept away from the prying eyes of the media, known only to

    Meena Kumari, the tragedy queen of Bollywood reigned the film industry for 30 years and closed her eyes at a meager age of 39. Meena Kumari earned the title not just because of her reel life roles but also because of her real life being nothing less than a tragedy.

    She created history during this period by being the only nominee for the Filmfare Award in 1962, for her roles in Aarti, Main Chup Rahungi, and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. She won the award for Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Despite the tragedy queen tag, she was also noted for light-hearted comedic roles in films like Azaad (1955), Miss Mary (1957), Shararat (1959) and Kohinoor (1960).

    The greatest hallmark of Meena Kumari lied in her ability to depict the struggle of Indian women existing especially in the 50s and 60s, Kumari Onscreen Persona is described as a perfect example of real traditional Bharatiya Nari by the Indian film fraternity like Mohammed Zahur Khayyam and Javed Akhtar. Kumari gained a reputation for playing grief-stricken and tragic roles, and her performances have been praised and reminisced throughout the years. Like Kumari portrayed of Pakeezah under Kamal Amrohi‘s direction became a historical piece of document. In her performances, beauty, aristocracy, tragedy, personality all blended into one. Her role as Chhoti Bahu, in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, is considered one of the best performances in Indian Cinema. Chhoti Bahu a role dangerously close to Kumari’s own tragic life, like the character of Chhoti Bahu, in real life Meena Kumari also became addicted to alcohol. Kumari life and prosperous career were marred by heavy drinking, troubled relationships, an ensuing deteriorating health, and her death from liver cirrhosis in 1972.

    Meena Kumariis one of the most remembered and loved actresses in the history of Indian cinema. Her beauty and on-screen aura has remained unparalleled over the years. While professionally, her careers had no bounds, her personal life was not always very rosy. The actress had a bad marriage with husband Kamal Amrohi, apart from a very traumatic childhood.
    Meena Kumari was abandoned by her father Ali Bux who left her outside an orphanage as he couldn't afford to pay the doctor. After a traumatic childhood, even her marriage life was quite rough. She fell in love with Kamal Amrohi despite the fact that he was married. The duo parted ways as it wasn't a rose-filled marriage. But Kamal continued to be obsessed with Meena. So much so, that according to reports, he had a huge issue with Dharmendrabecause he allegedly had an affair with Meena Kumari after she separated from Kamal.

    Dharmendra is also known to have openly confessed his feelings for Meena Kumari and their chemistry in the films they did together was hard to miss. Kamal has directed some of the highly acclaimed movies like 'Pakeezah', 'Mughal-e-Azam' among others. According to reports, he had cast Dharmendra in 'Razia Sultan' as a slave Jamal-ud-Din Yaqut while Hema Maliniwas cast as Empress Razia Sultan. Kamal had insisted that Dharmendra apply a black paint over his body for the role and the actor had to do it amidst scorching heat of the sun and shoot in the deserts bare-backed while the black paint was running down his face and body. Many thought, it was Kamal's perfection as a director, but sources at that time, also said it was Kamal's way to seek revenge.
    It is also believed that Kamal removed Dharmendra from 'Pakeeza' due to his closeness to Meena Kumari. Meanwhile, many years ago, in an interview wi
