Mahadik is new Rajaram mill chairman
Kolhapur: Former Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and son of ex-MLC Mahadevrao Mahadik, Amal Mahadik on Tuesday was elected as the new chairman of Chhatrapati Rajaram Cooperative Sugar Factory while Narayan Chavan as it's vice-chairman.
Mahadevrao had led his panel to victory in the recently held election for the mill, defeating all 21 candidates of Congress MLC Satej Patil-led panel.A meeting was held to elect the chairman and vice-chairman and both leaders were elected unopposed. “I will try to fullfil the promises made to the farmers during the election. Though my designation says chairman, every director will be chairman in their own capacity and lead the mill to further heights,” Amal said after assuming charge. He had made a slew of promises in the campaign.
Cong MLC Mahadev Mahadik's son to contest on BJP ticket
KOLHAPUR: Congress MLC Mahadev Mahadik's son Amal on Wednesday joined the BJP and will contest the assembly election from Kolhapur south assembly constituency. His candidature would pose a major threat to sitting Congress MLA and minister of state for home Satej Patil.
Mahadik joined the BJP in the presence of leader of opposition in legislative council Vinod will file his nomination form on Friday.
Supporters of Mahadik and the Patil faction were lobbying against each other in the district politics for last some years. Mahadik has the support of the dairy network through Gokul cooperative dairy in rural parts of Kolhapur south assembly segment. Mahadik's brother Swarup owns a sugar factory.
"I have seen a lot of unrest and anger towards the sitting MLA and the Congress ministers from Kolhapur. I am contesting the election to be a part of the change," Mahadik said, adding "I am contesting the election for the overall development of the area. The current growth of the assembly segment is limited and handful of people are reaping the benefits of being in power."
Patil is contesting for the third time from the segment. He and his family own a huge network of private colleges and sugar factory. His father, D Y Patil, is a veteran Congress leader and the present governor of Bihar.
Patil had contested the assembly election as an independent candidate and was given the Congress nomination in the election. Amal's cousin Dhananjay Mahadik posed a stiff challenge to Patil during the election. Patil managed to win with a slim margin of 5, votes. Dhananjay, Patil's friend-turned-foe, is now the NCP MP from Kolhapur.
Interestingly, BJP candidate in was Congress rebel Suryakant Baburao Patil, who was a senior leader of National Students' Union of India.
