Turkish drama serial

Bizim Hikaye (English: Our Story) is a Turkish drama series starring Hazal Kaya as Filiz, a young woman who takes care of her siblings after her mother leaves them, and Burak Deniz as Barış, a mysterious man, who appears in Filiz's life. It is an adaptation of the British original series Shameless. Its first episode (in September 2017) received more than 20 million views. The show was shot in Istanbul and ran for 70 episodes. The series is currently popular in Turkey.

Plot

Season 1

Filiz, 20, is a young woman in a lower-class Turkish family, forced to take care of her five younger siblings after her mother leaves and as her father, Fikri, is an alcoholic. Filiz believes that there is no place for love in her life until she meets Barış, a young man who cares for both Filiz and her family.

Meanwhile, Cemil, a police officer who is also in love with Filiz, finds out that Barış is a car thief and threatens to expose him to Filiz unless he leaves. Fikri reports the fact that his children are living without parental supervision to social services, resulting in her siblings being taken from Filiz, forcing her to marry Cemil.

I Saw the Sun (Turkish: Güneşi Gördüm) is a 2009 Turkishdrama film, written and directed by Mahsun Kırmızıgül, which tells of a Kurdish family who are forced from their village in southeastern Turkey by the conflict there. The film, which was released on 13 March 2009 (2009-03-13), was one of the highest grossing Turkish films of 2009, prompting its re-release on 18 September 2009 (2009-09-18). The film was Turkey's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.

Writer-director Mahsun Kırmızıgül has stated that the screenplay was inspired by the story of a man he met during the filming of his debut film The White Angel (Turkish: Beyaz Melek), whose 21-member family had to abandon their village around 15 years previously. I was overwhelmed by what he told me. As I am a native of that region myself, I thought I would recount the story in the way it deserves.
