She's the former TV journalist turned princess who is set to become Queen of Spain within weeks. But Princess Letizia is famous for more than simply being the wife of the Spanish king-in-waiting.

The 41-year-old mother-of-two has also carved out a name for herself as a royal style icon and even, on one memorable occasion, managed to outshine the ultra-glamorous Carla Bruni.

Her current wardrobe of tailored sheath dresses, sky-scraping court shoes and eye-catching jewels is all a far cry from her early days as a newsreader, when she embraced the bland Armani suit and was rarely seen in public wearing anything else.

    Queen Letizia showed off her super-toned arms in a glamorous floor-length jumpsuit at a gala dinner for the World Cancer Leaders Summit inMexico City last night.

    Showing off her flawlessly toned and tanned arms, Letizia wore her glossy brunette locks tied back in a mid-pony tail as she chatted with guests at the gala dinner. 

    She finished the look with a slick of bright red lipstick and a pair of diamond cluster earrings. 

    The president's wife, Mrs Rivera, a former television actress and model in Mexico, matched Letizia for style. 

    The 48-year-old blonde, a mother-of-three, donned a fitted black short-sleeve top with lace detail and a floral pleated skirt before changing into a more sober black skirt suit for dinner.

    La publicación española hace hincapié en una diferencia fundamental y es que entre los pecados de la Reina Letizia "no se encuentran precisamente la afición al lujo ni despilfarro".

    A pesar de lo bien que visten ambas hay diferencias presupuestarias significativas y operan en favor de la mexicana debido a los altos gastos aprobados para la oficina de la presidencia de Enrique Peña Nieto.

    La Presidencia de la República Mexicana erogó en 2014 casi 221 millones de dólares en su operación, que incluyen los gastos de la familia Peña Rivera. La Casa Real tiene aprobado para todo 2015 un presupuesto de 8.8 millones de dólares.
