Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer William Sutherland (born December 21, 1966) is a Canadianactor and director. Is best known for his starring role as President Tom Kirkman in the ABC - Netflix drama series Designated Survivor.

He was born in London, England in 1966 to Canadian actor Donald Sutherland and his wife Shirley Douglas, an actress and daughter of Canadian statesman Tommy Douglas. He also has a twin sister, named Rachel, who looks similar to him. He grew up in London, Corona, California and Toronto, Ontario.

In the 1980s, he was part of a group of young actors called the "Brat Pack" and appeared in movies Stand by Me (1986), The Lost Boys (1987), Young Guns (1988), Flatliners (1990), and The Three Musketeers (1993). In 2001, he starred as Jack Bauer in 24, which was intended as a one-shot mini-series, but became one of the most popular shows on TV. For this role, Kiefer won the Emmy Award for Best Actor in 2006, the Golden Globe for best actor in 2001, the SAG Award for Best Actor in 2003 and 2005 and the Satellite Award for Best Actor in 2002 and 2003. The show had eight seasons before ending, with one movie currently released.

He is also in the Fox drama, Touch as the role of Martin Bohm.

    Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland (born 21 December 1966) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his starring role as Jack Bauer in the Fox drama series 24 (2001–2010, 2014), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.

    Born to actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, he got his first leading film role in the Canadian dramaThe Bay Boy (1984), which earned him a Genie Award nomination. He has since appeared in such films as Stand by Me (1986), The Lost Boys (1987), Young Guns (1988), Flatliners (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), The Three Musketeers (1993), Freeway (1996), A Time to Kill (1996), Dark City (1998), Phone Booth (2002), Melancholia (2011), Pompeii (2014), and The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (2023).

    Sutherland was born on 21 December 1966 at St Mary's Hospital in the Paddington district of London, to Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, both successful Canadian actors who had been living and working in England. His parents divorced when he was three. He has a twin sister, Rachel Sutherland, who works as a post-production film supervisor. His maternal grandfather was Scottish-born Canadian politician and former Premier of SaskatchewanTommy Douglas, who is widely credited for bringing universal health care to Canada.

    On June 20, actor Kiefer Sutherland announced his father, Donald Sutherland, has died. “I personally think [he was] one of the most important actors in the history of film,” Kiefer wrote in a post on X. “Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

    Both Emmy recipients, the father and son didn’t truly work together onscreen until filming the 2016 western Forsaken. They portrayed an estranged father and son, unlike their real-life relationship. Despite largely grew up with his mother (and Donald’s ex-wife), Shirley Douglas, Kiefer and Donald became closer starting when Kiefer was a teenager.
