Fans of 'The Conjuring' franchise can mark their calendars as New Line Cinema has set September 5, 2025, as the release date for the fourth and final installment of the main series. Directed by Michael Chavez, known for his work on 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' and 'The Nun II', this film promises to be the definitive conclusion to the storyline that began captivating audiences in 2013. Screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has crafted the script, ensuring a fitting climax for the series. Originally helmed by James Wan, the 'Conjuring' universe has grossed over USD 2 billion globally, becoming a cornerstone of supernatural horror cinema. The series follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, whose encounters with the supernatural have thrilled audiences for nearly a decade. New Line Cinema has confirmed that the final 'Conjuring' film will be released in IMAX, offering an immersive experience for fans bidding farewell to the Warrens and their terrifying adventures. Additionally, New Line adjusted the release date of Maggie Gyllenhaal's 'Bride!', starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, moving it to September 26, 2025, also in IMAX format.

  • Exploring Vera Farmiga’s spooky side

With a resume that includes films such as The Departed, Up in the Air, Orphan and The Source Code, Vera Farmiga is undoubtedly one of the most talented actors in Hollywood today.

The Oscar-nominated actor diversified into directing in 2011 with the film, Higher Ground. She will now be seen in the horror film, The Conjuring, that releases in India tomorrow. We chat with the 39-year-old about the movie, her spooky experiences and more.

What was your reaction when you got the script?
When I got the script, I was challenged spiritually and I love projects that make you do that. Projects that make you consider whether to challenge the concept of God or the lack thereof and so, I think at the core also was this story about compassion and concern for others which the lead characters, Ed and Lorraine Warren, possessed.

    Any paranormal experience while shooting?
I have three scratches on my thigh that happened while shooting the ‘Trinity’ scene (in the film). The same thing appeared on my computer screen after I had my first creative conversation about Lorraine’s dresses and styling. After sealing Lorraine’s look, I opened my computer and saw the same three scratches across my computer screen which ultimately faded!

Did the supernatural experiences freak you out or made you believe in the supernatural?
No, I don’t allow it to take that power over me. If I do feel fear, I have a way to push it away and you know, I have the confidence and the love of God and I have the utensils and the tools, so there is no room in my life for anything supernatural.

You made your directorial debut with Higher Ground. Are you planning to direct again?
I don’t know. I would love to. I have two toddlers. A 4-year-old and 2-year-old, and I have my hands full right now with dates. I’m doing The Judge right now with Robert Downey Jr. Also, I haven’t found a story yet. But when I do, I will.

Stay connected with all the glitz and glam fro

Sisters Vera and Taissa Farmiga co-star in Higher Ground, which Vera directed; photographed in New York City.

Vera Farmiga wasn’t supposed to direct Higher Ground, a film premiered and acclaimed at this year’s Sundance festival. The actress, who made an impact in the 2006 Scorsese thriller, The Departed, and won an Oscar nomination in 2010 for her performance in Up in the Air, was brought into the project to play its main character, Corinne Walker. As the script went through one draft after another, Farmiga found herself committed not just to the story but to how it should be told. “The topic,” she says, “the struggle with spirituality, is something that is not often addressed. I could see it as a feature, putting a magnifying glass to this woman and her life transitions, those moments when we need to remove ourselves from our families, from our deity, to experience solitude—and within that solitude you choose growth.”

Based on a memoir by Carolyn S. Briggs called This Dark World, the project stalled, unfinanced, just at the point Farmiga found she was pregnant and would have nine months of downtime. “I felt the conviction,” she explains. “What I wanted to bring to it was music. I wanted to explore it with lightness and humor. My manager said, ‘Just take control. You tell the story.’ ”

And, boy, did she. In her dual role as director and lead actress, Farmiga has brought together a dream cast of actor’s actors. She also debuts her 16-year-old sister, Taissa Farmiga—“blatant nepotism,” Vera admits—who plays the young Corinne with lovely quiet and a luminous gaze. Faith demands that we close our eyes in prayer, but what if your eyes keep opening? Farmiga has looked at “this dark world” and made a movie full of light.

Apple’s limited series about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has found its lead actress.

Vera Farmiga will star in Five Days at Memorial, based on a nonfiction book by Pulitzer Prize winner Sheri Fink. The show will reunite the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actress with her Bates Motel showrunner Carlton Cuse, who is writing and executive producing Five Days at Memorial with John Ridley.

The limited series chronicles a New Orleans hospital in the five days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. Amid rising flood waters, stifling heat and failing power, exhausted caregivers at the hospital were forced to make life-and-death decisions that would haunt them in the years to come.

Farmiga will play Dr. Anna Pou, a physician at the hospital.

Farmiga is currently in production on Hawkeye, a Marvel series for Disney+ with Jeremy Renner reprising his title role. She earned an Emmy nomination in 2019 for Netflix’s When They See Us and one in 2013 for A&E’s Bates Motel. Her film credits include The Departed, Up in the Air (for which she scored an Oscar nod), the forthcoming Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, and the Conjuring series. She is repped by CAA, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and Peikoff Mahan.

ABC Signature is producing Five Days at Memorial. Cuse and Ridley, who both have overall deals at the studio, executive produce and will also direct episodes. Author Fink is a producer.
